Off to a Fair-alicious start…
Well the start to day 1 of the NC State Fair is officially underway… kind of. Today is a “soft launch”, which means gates open at 3pm and for a mere $25 Joe Public can have full access to all the Fair rides his insides can handle. Can’t beat that!
Candice Combs was here bright and early this morning for the State Fair Safety Press Conference. She snapped these pics of what the Fair looks like in the calm before the storm:
And here’s the fun (ok, useful… but also kinda fun!) stuff she learned this morning:
- If you’re planning on getting your crime on at the Fair this year… don’t. Approximately 200 uniformed Police officers will be patrolling the Fair this year (in addition to a number of undercover officers). So don’t try to get away with anything sneaky. Big Brother Fair is watching.
- Safety inspectors are hard at work as I type, and are expected to clear all rides by 3pm this afternoon. Agriculture Commissioner Steve Troxler said himself that he wouldn’t clear a ride unless he’d feel comfortable letting his precious 2 year-old granddaughter ride. And he seemed to be genuinely crazy about her, so I’d feel pretty good about the safety of these rides if I were you. And speaking of Commissioner Troxler…
- … both he and Labor Commissioner Cherie Berry (who some of you might recognize from our State Fair golf cart rides from last year!) have both personally tested the rides themselves. Their favorite? The Master Blaster. Let’s just hope that’s not a prophetic name. Just in case, maybe save that funnel cake for after you’ve ridden that one…
