Craftsmanship To Be Judged At Thursday Carpenter Contest
RALEIGH, N.C. — The N.C. Department of Labor will hold a contest for apprentice carpenters on Thursday at the N.C. State Fair.
Apprentices will compete in the 23rd Annual Carpentry Apprentice Contest from 9 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. Commissioner of Labor Cherie Berry and Commissioner of Agriculture Steve Troxler will present awards to the winners at 2:30 p.m. The contest will showcase the apprentices’ residential and commercial building skills.
Prize money from the N.C. State Fair is awarded to all contestants who finish in the top 10 in each contest. First place winners receive $325. Second place pays $225, and third place, $175.
The 22nd Annual Plumber/Pipefitter Apprentice Contest will take place on Friday, Oct. 24. Masonry and HVAC apprentices competed in contests on Monday, and apprentice electricians competed on Wednesday.
The N.C. Department of Labor has 1,600 accredited high school and adult apprenticeship programs with 17,000 participating apprentices from across the state.
