What to look for today…
Today’s the last weekday of the Fair. Can you believe it’s almost over already?! Well as usual, Brian Long (or “B Lo” as Candice Combs and I like to call him) has hooked us up again with the day-of tip sheet. Today’s highlights include the “Farm Animal Frenzy”, a tobacco “mocktion”, a dress that will [...]
“Must-Eats” at the Fair by the one person who’s tried it ALL: a pregnant lady.
I think I’ve found my calling: “Official Fair Food-Taster.” Yeah… I like the sounds of that. I like the tastes of that even more. And since most of you haven’t had the benefit of an entire week at the Fair as I have, and because most of you don’t have the added benefit of pregnant-chic tastebuds [...]
Finding Lost Money Is Always Good
The Department of State Treasurer is helping reunite people with their money and other unclaimed property at the N.C. Cash booth. Unclaimed property consists of bank accounts, wages, utility deposits, insurance policy proceeds, stocks, bonds and contents of safe deposit boxes that typically have been abandoned for one to five years.
I May Be Crazy, But I’m Not Stupid
Well, I couldn’t spend eight days at the N.C. State Fair without getting on an amusement ride.My recommendation: The Claw. Here’s the deal with this ride … they psych you out. This thing takes you up in the air, spins you around upside and then, it begins to come in for a landing. At [...]
Performing ‘Magic’ Poodles, What?
So you know a magic poodle show is going to be good when the trainer uses one of the animals to fake relieve itself on a bunch of children. After that, it was all pretty much a blur.
Bike Stunt Show High-Flyin’ Fun
Today was my first chance to check out the King Action Sports Stunt Show and it was pretty intense. These guys are athletes and a half. Even though they are outfitted in helmets, it still looks like it would hurt taking a tumble down one of those ramps.
Allow us to help relieve your hunger…
Today is “Food Lion Hunger Relief Day” at the Fair. That means you’ll get free admission if you bring 4 cans of food along with you when you arrive. In my book, that also means it’s a great day to relieve your own hunger. But then, what day isn’t a great to day to stuff your face at the Fair? [...]
Bring Some Food, Get In Free
Want to get in the fair for free and contribute to a good cause? Come on down for the N.C. State Fair’s Food Lion Hunger Relief Day. If you bring in four cans of food, admission is free all day.
Dance Your Pants Off!
Dancing your pants off is easy to do when you’re a size 32″ and are wearing a size 60″ pair of pants! Thankfully the winner of the “Subway Pants Dance Revolution” had an extra pair on underneath the ones he ripped off halfway through the show. And yes, in spite of the sound of [...]
Bring your tissues to watch the 82nd Airborne Chorus…
… because they’ll bring tears to your eyes. Not only do they sing beautifully, but they’re in uniform when they do it. And when your country’s at war and you know half the people watching have family and friends overseas fighting right now… well you’d have to be the tin man to make it through [...]
Tractor Pull: It’s An Easy Ride
Too tired to walk the fairgrounds? That’s OK. You can take the Tram. For your convenience, and for those of you with kids, who have trouble walking or may just be too tuckered out from riding The Claw over and over again, the Tram offers free rides throughout the fairgrounds.
Come On Out, The Weather’s Perfect
So according to our fabulous NBC17 meteorologists, it’s partly cloudy, and about 55 degrees-perfect state fair weather. There’s so much going on today, and from what I’ve already seen, today’s your best bet for heading out to enjoy the festivities.
Local BMX Stunt Rider ‘Lives The Dream’
Durham native Keith King says he always had dreams of flying. The full-time BMX bike stunt rider does just that now, as he owns and operates the King Action Sports Stunt Show, which has performed for the last 10 years at the N.C. State Fair. “As long as you have fun, there’s no reason to quit,” [...]
Today’s ‘Dance Off’ Boasts Five Finalists
That ever-loving spokesman for Subway, Jared Fogle, will be here today emceeing a group of dancers competing in a dance-off. Five finalists will participate, including a minister and a 4-year-old girl, so this should be fun. The event starts at 2:30 p.m. at the N.C. State Fair Waterfall Stage and Page and I plan to [...]
Our “tip-off” from the man in-the-know…
Public Affairs Officer Brian Long takes such good care of us (and you!). Everyday he sends out a little “tip sheet” with what to look out for at the Fair that day. Today’s events include “Military Appreciation Day”, a big Fair anniversary, some boogeying… and more! Read on to see what Brian clued us in [...]
